Challenge Penticton

The Animals came and conquered Challenge Penticton with a 1,2 podium punch that left the competition knocked out! Carrie took charge from the start of the bike showing off her strong bike legs and taking control of the women's race to cruise to an easy victory! Scottie worked his way through the field on the run unleashing an incredible 2:45 marathon that moved him into 2nd place overall! And last but not least, Dan raced in his first Ironman and battled strong all day long finishing inside the top ten with a solid 9th place in his first attempt at the distance.

After her dominant win, Carrie reported in to say:

Well the race started off with some fun in the swim. Scotty and I always manage to gravitate to each other when we start together, so matter how many are in the group!! I think we had a good swim. My plan was to ride hard. Full stop. I had some low points for sure, but most of the ride I felt the strength from my the riding in Tennessee and Ironman Lake Placid. The run was a different story. My bike plan and some fatigue from my last ironman set in at about 28-30kms on the run and I did my best to make it to the finish line. Luckily in first place. I am thrilled to have my first win of the year here in Penticton, and share it with Scotty 2nd, and Challenge made the experience even greater for both of us.

Scottie reported in after the race and his stellar 2nd place finish to say:

It was an honor to be a part of the first ever Challenge Event in N.America at Challenge Penticton!  The legendary course lived up to its hype as it proved to much harder then I anticipated!  The swim was pretty average but having lost just 4 mins to leaders it was a good start to the day!  I pushed pretty hard during the middle section through the hills but paid the price, struggling home into the stiff head wind the last 40kms.  Coming into the race I have been battling some knee niggles but thought if it held up I was in shape to run 2:45.  So to come away with the fastest run and a 2nd overall I am very happy!  It was a special day indeed for us with Carrie getting the win in the women's division and Dan finishing his first pro Iron Distance event!  Special thanks to our nutrition sponsor Ignite Naturals for being here with us this week and putting us up in their home!  Thank you so much!  And to the city of Penticton for keeping the tradition going here, what a race!  Long live Challenge Penticton!

Dan the Man had a great day in his Ironman debut finishing inside the top ten in 9th place overall.  He is looking forward to competing in more Ironmans and 70.3s throughout the rest of this season!

Congrats to the Animals on your 1,2 podium punch!
