Dan McIntosh is racing the inaugural Ironman Lake Tahoe on Sunday. Being based in Colorado for much of the year Dan is familiar with the altitude, but for those arriving from sea level it is likely to be challenging. The weather is also forecast to be relatively cold and wet, so this could end up being a race of attrition.
I caught up with Dan earlier this week before he headed to Tahoe.
This is my second Ironman this year. With four weeks of solid training coming off Challenge Penticton I will be looking for redemption and an opportunity to race over a hard course. Altitude and conditions should play a factor as the race begins at 6,226 feet and morning temps are expected to be around 40 degrees with water temps currently hovering around 65 degrees. There are also several other talented athletes on the start list but the nature of the race makes for it to be anyone's race. The tough men and women will certainly prevail and its my intent to be the toughest.
