Ruth is heading back to Cozumel for teamTBB camp and started her trip with the Elite National Championships in Mexico. Ruth has been training hard in Australia and is eager to be back racing. The race was in Boca del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico, on Friday 23rd of August.
The championship event started off with an ocean swim. Then, the bike was a looped course very flat along the coast. Finally, the run will also be flat and was very hot and humid. Ruth was ready but was struck by the heat and humidity. It has been winter back in Austrailia but summer is in full swim in Mexico. It’s the Elite National Championships, so all the female racers from around the country of Mexico were all there and ready to race.
Prior to the race, Ruth reported in to say
“I have done a big block of good training, so I’m pretty excited to see how I go! I feel ready to fight and have fun!”
The race went well for Ruth but the finish wasn't what she was expecting. Ruth came in 18th place and found it difficult with being a bit flat after her long trip back to Mexico. Unfortunately in a sprint race, slow reaction times equate into critical time losses. Ruth will be back and ready to race her way to the podium in the next few weeks. She told us after the race
"It was not a really good race day for me. I expected so much more and I’m disappointed with my performance, but will keep working. It was a good learning experience, and that’s a good thing. There are crucial moments that once that are gone, are gone”.
Congrats on a great effort Ruth! We can't wait to have you back in Cozumel for camp and watch you excel this season!
