A full stable of teamTBB athletes will race 70.3 Cozumel on Sunday. With Cozumel being the North American winter training base for teamTBB it is fantastic to have such a beautiful race on our doorstep. For our athletes preparing for Kona it is also a nice training day.
Showers and gusty winds are a strong possibility for the race on Sunday and will make the flat course challenging. The two loop bike route is expected to present head, tail and cross winds as it circumnavigates the island, hugging the ocean for much of the ride.
teamTBB athletes on the start line on this beautiful course is Jodie Swallow, Celine Schaerer, Ruth Nivon, James Cunnama, Daniel Halksworth, Ritchie Nicholls, Trevor Delsaut, Andrés Castillo
Todd Skippworth and Anne Basso are possible starters pending late fitness tests.
Prior to the race our athletes offered the following thoughts for Sunday....
Looking forward to one last test before Kona here in Cozumel this weekend. Last year I punctured out of this race, so it's good to be back for revenge. I am very familiar with the island now so that helps in prep. But it's a strong field so we'll see.
I am looking forward to racing Cozumel 70.3 on Sunday. It is a training race with my goal being Hawaii - but I'll give my all as always, and take opportunities that arise as the race develops like I always do. Cozumel is our major partner in 2013 and I am grateful to the officials and the Governor here for having the foresight to bring major races to the island and support the growth and development of healthy living for the youth here with the teamTBB development programme.
I really looking forward to the race here in Cozumel in my Mexico home. I am racing to do good training and prepare for the next races are coming up here in Cozumel and around Cozumel. I arrived one week ago and the humidity is really high. I think it is going to be a really hard race which I look forward to. As always I will give my best and enjoy the race.
I’ve been training well for the last weeks, so I expect to go well in this race. It will be really fun and interesting as most of teamTBB will be out there racing too!! So I’m pretty excited to see how I go!
I'm really looking forward to racing Cozumel 70.3 this weekend. I've been in Cozumel for a week now and really enjoying training here. It will be nice to not have to travel to the race. There is a strong field so I'm going into it looking for a good hit out and hopefully will be fighting to be on the podium.
This is my first race in four months, so will be interesting to see how my swim and bike are after a specific running plan. My plan is simply don't be worried about the other competitors and represent Cozumel the best I can.
Looking forward to racing in Cozumel. Been here for a few weeks now getting ready for kona so it will be a good race to prepare and make sure everything I'm using for the big day is in working order. Recently got my new Cervelo so will be nice to have a little race on it before kona. The race is flat but can be windy, rainy and hot at times as its currently hurricane season but we will all be experiencing the same weather.
Excited to be racing at home in Cozumel. I will push hard in the swim, hard on the bike, and hard on the run. Bang, bang, bang!
