teamTBB athletes, Diana Riesler and Maki Nishiuchi will be taking on Ironman Malaysia this Sunday, September 27th.
Ironman Malaysia has returned to the Island of Langkawi, affectionately known as the Jewel of Kedah. The race will take the athletes through a tropical, hilly and demanding terrain.
The Ocean swim consists of a two-loop triangle out to Eagle Point and back to be followed up with a two-loop bike course. The run consists of a four-loop run through Legenda park, market places and the local stadium before returning to cross the finish line at Datarang Lang.
Riesler and Nishiuchi will be up against a strong field with Rebecca Preston of Australia, returning to Ironman after a 6 year hiatus, and Taiwans, Li Shiao Yu, who is on form after recently defending her Ironman Japan title last month.
Riesler who will be wearing the number one bib in the womens field, has spent the last two weeks training in Phuket at the Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club, acclimatizing herself to the heat, as Langkawi is known to be one of the hottest Ironmans in the world. She is feeling in top form after taking second place at the Ironman distance race, Metaman, in Bintan last month.
Maki who recently returned to racing after taking a year off to start a family is looking forward to taking on the challenge at Ironman Malaysia.
The mens field is looking to be an exciting race with Cameron Brown of New Zealand and Fredrik Croneborg of Sweden vying to take the win, both have recently had some great successes in their recent races. Former professional Triathlete, Jurgen Zack, will also be taking part but as an age group in the 45-49 category in a bid to get a slot for the World Ironman Championships 2015 in Kona.
We wish Diana Riesler and Maki Nishiuchi the best of luck at Ironman Malaysia as well as the rest of the athletes taking part.
