Back racing

It is a long time ago since I wrote my last blog. But you can be sure that a lot has happened and there is much to come. First of all, and this is really outstanding, this is the 8th year of team TBB and for me personally my 4th year as a team member. There is not one other triathlon team in the world that even lasted half that time.

For me personally the preparation for 2014 started after a three weeks break after my nice race at Cologne 226 Triathlon where I could better my personal best on the iron distance by 10 minutes to 8hrs17min.

The preparation went really god until the end of April and I planned to race Ironman 70.3 Barcelona as my first race of the season. Unfortunately I was confronted with the first injury I have had during the last 5 years as a professional athlete. I think I can count myself fortunate for that, because it is really frustrating to see all of the effort you have done during the past months disappear again. At least that’s what I was thinking, while I´ve not been able to run properly.

I have had two weeks of proper run training now and was really surprised that It did not take long to get back in a good running shape. I did a triathlon league race last Sunday to get a hint where I stand after these weeks of injury. It was the second fast run after the break and I was very surprised that I could win that race with a 16:40 on the last 5K. This is still a bit from where I have been before, but It made me happy to see that I had not lost much. After all it was really fun to race a sprint race again. It hurts a lot, but not that long ;-). My last sprint race was more than 4 years ago. I was also happy to be able to help my local triathlon club team with my first place to make another step toward the second triathlon league in Germany. By the way, all were racing in TBBapparel like you can see on the picture.

Now I prepare for Ironman 70.3 Norway on July 6th. This is one of my favorite races in my second home country. Afterwards I plan to defend my title at Ostseeman triathlon on August 3rd for the 4th time. Finally I will race at least one, maybe two late season Ironman races. Since I have started my season late, I am going to end it late as well.
